Both apps provide endless class variety and convenience, but each has drawbacks.

Beachbody built its brand using multi-level marketing schemes, and that heavy upsell instinct is present throughout the user experience. Both BODi and the Daily Burn do not share if their coaches are credentialed fitness professionals.

Keep reading for a detailed overview of each app, their pros and cons, and tips on choosing the best fitness app for you.

Daily Burn

Best for those who want maximum variety

  • Extensive Classes & Workouts
  • Daily Burn Audio for listening instead of watching
  • Member Referral Program

Daily Burn is one of the numerous fitness subscription apps available to help you fit exercise into your busy life. The app has thousands of individual recorded group classes and live classes streaming daily. You can access the live class up to 24 hours after it has aired.

Daily Burn offers the following types of workouts:

  • HIIT
  • Dance
  • Mobility
  • Barre
  • Core
  • Strength training
  • Kettlebell training
  • Kickboxing
  • Pilates
  • Yoga

In addition, you can choose a workout program to follow for 2 -8 weeks with lots of different areas of focus:

  • Strength & Power
  • Baby Bump & Beyond
  • Quick Hits
  • Champion Training

  • Back to Basics
  • Everyday Meditations
  • Yoga Retreat
  • Low Impact Training
  • Many more

You can filter classes by difficulty, trainer, duration, pace, and equipment required by navigating their sleek app dashboard, which looks great and is easy to use.

Because of the variety and scalability of workouts, Daily Burn is a solid choice for those with low to average fitness and anyone who craves different types of exercise. However, because there is no form of feedback, you must know the basics of exercise form if you’re doing high-intensity or strength sessions, especially.

Numerous workouts do not require any equipment, but most users recommend investing in a few pieces, such as dumbbells or kettlebells, to keep your workouts challenging.

Other equipment options recommended by Daily Burn include:

  • Aerobic Platform
  • Kettlebells
  • Medicine Balls
  • Pilates Ring
  • Plyo Box
  • Pull-up Bar
  • Yoga Blocks
  • Yoga Mat
  • Heart Rate Monitor

You can choose from four different payment options, all of which are priced competitively based on other popular fitness apps such as Aaptiv, Obe, and Peloton.

You can download Daily Burn on IOS or Android devices and also use Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or Google Chromecast products to stream.

You can try Daily Burn for free for 14 days,  but you will have to enter your credit card information. Signing up is easy and takes five minutes or less. Simply download the app and take a short quiz. Next, you’ll be taken to your dashboard to sign up for classes or workout programs and access daily recipes and other app content.

The app logs all your performance data in real time, including calories burned, length of workout, total time spent exercising, goals achieved, and workouts completed.

You can also download three new Daily Burn apps: Running, Yoga Workouts, and HIIT. Each new app offers a more detailed onboarding and tailored workout experience for those seeking more specific exercise programs.

Other features of the app include daily recipes, a community forum where you can connect with other members, and a newsletter you can subscribe to that offers more in-depth fitness and nutrition tips.

Daily Burn Pros & Cons

Overall, there’s a lot to love about the Daily Burn app, and it’s a solid choice for those new to exercise, people who enjoy at-home workouts, and those who want maximum variety in their workout program.

The group instructors offer average workout instruction and the app only works on wifi with no download options. It’s also important to note that Daily Burn does not provide credentials for all its instructors, which is concerning and certainly not typical in the industry. While some coach bios include fitness certifications, many do not.

Best for complete, advanced classes

In 2015 the Beachbody company—famous since the 1990s for their killer workout DVDs and multi-level marketing structure—launched Beachbody on Demand or BOD.

Then in 2023, they rebranded the company as BODi, short for Beachbody on Demand Interactive. This rebrand streamlined their service offerings to a single app that offers thousands of pre-recorded and live group fitness classes and extremely detailed nutrition plans.

It’s important to note that the BODi app is a legitimate fitness app with lots to offer for anyone who likes streaming workouts at home.

However, the Beachbody brand has a long and questionable history of aggressively pushing diet culture and shame-based coaching, as well as running a multi-level marketing business with their ‘coaches’ and Shakeology supplement line.

You do not have to become a beach body coach, join a group, or buy their supplements or other products to use and enjoy the app. But they do have pushy upselling built into every aspect of the user experience, so be aware of that.

BODi offers loads of class options that are easy to filter by fitness level, workout length, training type, or trainer and include the following individual workout types:

    • Strength training
    • HIIT
    • Cycling
    • Barre
    • Pilates
    • Yoga
    • Fat Loss
    • Muscle Gain
    • Cardio
    • At-home workouts
    • Insanity
    • p90X

In addition, you can choose from over 100 complete workout programs:

    • Insanity, high-intensity training led by a celebrity instructor
    • p90X, equipment optional intense HIIT exercise
    • Let’s Get Up, a feel-good dance program
    • 9 Week Control Freak, focused on fitness, nutrition, and rest
    • 10 Rounds, a boxing program focused on fat loss
    • Morning Meltdown 100, a 100-workout commitment that builds fat and burns fat
    • Barre Blend, a ballet, barre, Pilates, and cardio combo program
    • Muscle Burns Fat, build muscle and burn fat with this program

Unlike Daily Burn, BODi tends to offer more high-intensity, advanced classes. Of course, they do have some classes appropriate for beginners, and their instructors provide exercise modifications throughout the classes.

The payment structure has been simplified significantly over the years, so you can try BODi for free for 14 days, and then you choose to be billed every 3 months at $89, 6 months at $119, or 12 months at $179. This price structure keeps them squarely in the middle of the fitness app subscription cost bracket.

You can download BODi on IOS or Android devices and also use Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or Google Chromecast products to stream their classes. You may also be offered to bundle your subscription purchase with products from their Shakeology supplement line.

Once you’ve selected your subscription type, you will be offered the opportunity to work with a free coach. Because there is no information about these coaches on their website, it is unclear whether these are credentialed fitness professionals or Beachbody ‘coaches’–a title bestowed by the company on their product distributors.

After that, signing up is easy, and you’ll be taken to your dashboard. Unfortunately, the dashboard is littered with ads for their diet programs, supplements, and other products, making it feel cluttered.

    Other Beachbody Features

More features of the app include exquisitely detailed nutrition plans, and their one-size-fits-all, reductionist approach to nutrition has garnered the ire of the registered dietetics community.

Next, the app has a Mindset tab where you can access videos to help you cultivate positivity on your fitness journey. Lastly, you get access to a community forum where you can connect with other members.

    Beachbody Pros & Cons

For all its faults, the BODi app offers countless group class options from home with high-production quality.

However, the constant up-selling and non-evidence-based content pushed by uneducated laymen make this app difficult to recommend.

    Beachbody Pros
    • Thousands of live and pre-recorded workouts
    • Stress management & mindset content
    • High-quality video production
    • Detailed nutrition guides
    • Portion control instruction
    • Community support groups
    Beachbody Cons
    • Ads & upsells throughout
    • Unclear coaching & nutrition credentials
    • Cluttered dashboard
    • No feedback on your form or 1:1 coaching
    • Difficult cancellation process
    • May see cancellation fees
    • One-size-fits-all nutrition advice
    • No short workouts
    • Some non-evidence based terms throughout

    Daily Burn vs Beachbody

Similarities between Daily Burn & Beachbody

Both Daily Burn and Beachbody (BODi) apps offer many high-quality group fitness class options and a program for every type of fitness goal. Both are easy to sign up for and start using, and both have substantial content catalogs.

Daily Burn and Beachbody (BODi) also have coaches with unclear credentials and experience, and they do not offer real-time coaching. When using either app, make sure you feel comfortable with your exercise form before dialing up the intensity or weight.

    Daily Burn & Beachbody Differences

Daily Burns workouts and training styles are better suited for all fitness levels and those who like working out at home, while the Beachbody app is better for experienced exercisers and those who enjoy high-intensity exercise.

Wading through the sea of fitness apps available today can feel overwhelming. So here is a quick guide on choosing a fitness app and the key considerations to keep in mind.

    1. What’s your budget? By answering this question, you can narrow down your options. Most fitness apps cost $15 - $30 per month, but there is an app for every budget.
    2. What is your fitness goal? While most apps offer a variety of fitness class offerings or coaches–what is your main goal? You’ll want to choose an app with plenty of content in the area you want to grow.
    3. Do you like group classes? Do you want a dedicated trainer? Do you want a tailored plan? Knowing what kind of instruction level you need and the exercise programs you enjoy most will make it more likely for you to stick with your goals in the long term. So take a minute to think about what you want most and what you’re looking to get out of the experience.
    4. Read the fine print. We’ve all been there–you signed up for a subscription service with the touch of a button, but canceling it requires a solar eclipse on the third Tuesday of the month. Before signing up, make sure you understand the cancellation process and do a quick search for app reviews online. This can save you headaches and money down the road.

    Bottom Line

Daily Burn and Beachbody have thousands of pre-recorded and live group fitness classes and programs suitable for every fitness goal. In addition, both apps are affordable and easy to use.

However, neither Daily Burn nor Beachbody guarantees certified fitness professionals are on their coaching staff, so proceed cautiously. If you’re new to exercise and unsure how to execute a movement, there are much better fitness apps available, such as Future.

You can try Daily Burn for 30 days and Beachbody free for 14 days.
