OVERVIEW

Les Mills+ (get your 30-day free trial here) is the streaming platform of the Les Mills company, a world-wide fitness company featuring trademark workouts and programs powered by science. Brand-specific classes are available in gyms and fitness facilities with Les Mills instructors. Some of their more popular programs include BODYPUMP, GRIT STRENGTH, BARRE, BODYCOMBAT, and RPM.

To make classes more accessible, Les Mills created a streaming service, allowing people to work out at home, on the go and on their schedule. The Les Mills+ fitness app features beginner to advanced routines, individual classes, and workout plans and challenges ranging from three to 12 weeks in length. Plus, instructors are vetted by the Les Mills company and include world-class fitness leaders and trainers.

Classes are offered on-demand, making it easy for me to fit workouts into my schedule. They feature various durations ranging from 10 to 60+ minutes, so you can choose the workout time that works best for you. Another thing we really like about this platform is the music. Some apps lack variety and fun, but Les Mills+ does an excellent job matching the beats to the moves, making the workouts engaging, motivating, and full of energy.

Many workouts do not require equipment, making Les Mills+ an excellent choice for people working out at home or needing a fitness app while traveling. Signature Les Mills classes like BODYPUMP and Les Mills GRIT Strength use a barbell or weight plates, while Les Mills CORE requires a resistance band and weight plates. And, of course, the indoor cycling classes require access to an exercise bike. That said, all of the workouts that use equipment also offer non-equipment alternatives, and it’s noted under the class duration if equipment is needed.

You’ll notice Les Mills+ uses trademarked and brand-specific titles for classes and programs. So, it may take some time and patience to learn their unique categories. The good news is if you’re unsure about signing up, you can preview some of Les Mills more popular workouts like BODYCOMBAT, BODYPUMP, GRIT, and BODYBALANCE. Plus, Les Mills has an extensive YouTube channel that gives you access to several workouts, videos, and educational content.

Getting Started with the Les Mills+ App

You can download Les Mills+ from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The app works with iOS or Android-supported mobile devices, Apple TV, Kindle Fire, Xbox, Roku, Chromecast, Fire TV, desktop or laptop computers, and more. It took me about five minutes to get started with the app.

The app asked me about my experience level, how long I want to exercise per session, the types of workouts I want to try, and access to equipment. After taking the short quiz, Les Mills created a customized experience with class and workout recommendations.

Les Mills+ App Standout Features

Les Mills+ is a global fitness platform with diverse workout plans and comprehensive programming. It also offers two subscription plans, making this workout app both accessible and affordable. Keep reading to learn more about our favorite standout features.

Technique Videos

Learning new moves and exercises can be tricky, especially when using a fitness app. Fortunately, Les Mills+ provides excellent technique videos to help you master the moves for each program. Even though each workout has expert guidance and cues from the instructors, it’s best to watch these videos before trying a routine.

Specialty Plans

Speciality plans are a cornerstone of the Les Mills+ experience. Here are some of the programs they offer:

  • Journey to Health – 3 week program ideal for beginners to try out different ways to move your body.
  • Fast Fit – 4 week program to kick-start your fitness with four, 30-minute workouts each week.
  • Fast Blast – 6 week plan for intermediate levels featuring six, 30-minutes workouts each week.
  • Game Changer (with and without equipment) – 6 week advanced plan has you powering through six, 30 to 90 minutes of exercise each session.
  • Stronger – 6 week program designed for six days a week of strength workouts with cardio, mobility, and flexibility.
  • Wellness Reset – 6 week beginner plan to help you learn yoga and mindful movement.
  • Fuel Reset – 6 week healthy eating plan.

Audio Workouts

If you want a break from the screen but like the instructor cues and music, then audio workouts are a great way to go. Les Mills+ offers an audio format for cycling, strength, and running.

Post-Pregnancy Workouts

Getting fit and feeling healthy after pregnancy is critical for recovery. But you also need to make sure you’re following safe and effective forms of exercise during the postpartum period. Les Mills+ has a variety of programming aimed at the days and months following pregnancy and childbirth, including classes for core strengthening, posture, cardio, and strength training. They also feature informative videos covering critical topics like breastfeeding, healthy tips, and pelvic floor health.

Cyclical Training

Maintaining a fitness program during your menstrual cycle and menopause can help ease symptoms, boost energy, and improve overall well-being. Les Mills+ provides specialized programming focusing on cyclical training, perimenopause and menopause workouts, and educational content.

Kids and Teens Programming

BORN TO MOVE kid and teen workout classes feature moves and music that inspire movement and fun. Workouts are designed for ages 2 to 16, with age-specific routines and exercises that safely meet the developmental needs of each group. I had my 13 and 15-year old try out a few classes and they liked the music, motivating instructors, and fun moves. Both teens said the workouts felt like beginner to intermediate levels, so they should be accessible to a variety of people. They also liked how Les Mills+ uses split screens to show different people demonstrating the moves. You always have a portion of the screen dedicated to the instructor, but the camera will also pan to other teens who are doing the workout in their environment.

Holistic and Helpful Approach to Fitness

We like the wellness content that covers nutrition, mindfulness, recovery, and breathwork, which gives the app a more holistic feel. We also appreciate the starter guides and how-to videos that help new users learn the ins and outs of the app and workout programs.

What Does Les Mills+ Track?

The tracking features on the Les Mills+ app are fairly minimal. Unlike other platforms that focus more on tracking and metrics, Les Mills+ prioritizes the workouts. That said, you will be able to see completed workouts, active days each month, average duration, favorite workouts, and completed sessions.

Who Is Les Mills+ Best For?

One thing we really like about Les Mills+ is there is something for everyone. The programming is diverse, and the instructors provide cues to accommodate various fitness levels. Plus, you don’t need equipment to get started, so it’s a great option if you exercise at home or on-the-go.

Certified personal trainer, Aleksander Saks, CSCS, says the Les Mills+ app is better than the average fitness app because it features workouts led by professional instructors. “This ensures that the trainee is getting the best information and guidance,” he says. Another positive, says Saks, is that the content library is high-quality, and there are many workouts to choose from, providing users with diverse options that help keep their fitness routine engaging.

There’s no doubt that Les Mills+ offers users a broad range of workouts, instructors, and programming. That said, it may be a bit overwhelming to beginners or anyone wanting a simple fitness app with minimal options.

What to Consider When Choosing a Fitness App

Not all fitness apps are created equally, so it’s a good idea to shop around before you settle on the right platform. Here are some questions to consider while checking out the various fitness apps.

Does it fit your budget?

Workout apps range in price from free to $100+ per month, making budget one of the key factors to consider when deciding on an app. While some high-end apps may be out of your price range, there are many that land in the $12.99 to $29.99 per month, with some offering discounts if you purchase more than one month at a time.

Can you try it for free before committing?

One of the best ways to know if an app is right for you is to test-drive it before committing to a monthly fee. During my research, I found that most platforms offer free trial periods ranging from 7 to 30 days, which is enough time to know if the app will work for you.

What type of fitness modalities does it offer?

Fitness apps often feature several modalities, such as cardio, strength training, bodyweight workouts, yoga, stretching, HIIT, Pilates, and boot camp, among others. That said, some apps only focus on a few methods, so it’s critical to check the workout types before signing up.

Is your device compatible?

Most fitness apps are designed for mobile devices that support iOS or Android. Before signing up, check to make sure your device is compatible with the platform. If you use a smartwatch or fitness tracker, check to see if the app can connect to your wearable device.

What is the format for classes and workouts?

Some apps feature live and on-demand instructor-led classes and workouts, while others take a routine-based approach. Make sure to look at the app format and determine if the workouts and classes fit your needs.

Do you need special equipment?

Choose an app based on where you plan on working out. If you have access to a gym, the options are limitless. But if you need to exercise at home, make sure to check the required equipment list to see if you have everything you need. Many apps have bodyweight-only routines or workouts that use minimal equipment like dumbbells and resistance bands.

Bottom Line

The Les Mills+ app is a comprehensive fitness platform that offers a wide variety of workouts, industry-leading instructors, and dynamic programs to help you reach your fitness goals. If you want the best experience, consider getting the Premium plan because it offers more options and unlimited access to the workouts. You can always start with the Base plan and upgrade if needed. And don’t forget to take advantage of the generous 30-day free trial.
